Motorcyclist seriously injured in Barrow County wreck while fleeing from police

An Athens man was seriously injured in a two-vehicle wreck Tuesday evening in Barrow County after fleeing from police through multiple counties in the region.

According to a press release from the Georgia State Patrol, Corrie Day, 47, was life-flighted to Northeast Georgia Medical Center after the wreck on Georgia 316 at Carl Bethlehem Road.

A state trooper reportedly spotted Day at about 7:35 p.m. driving a motorcycle at about 108 mph in a 65 mph zone on the Georgia 10 Outer Loop at Old Hull Road in Athens-Clarke County.

The trooper activated his emergency lights and siren and attempted to conduct a traffic stop on Day, but he fled from the trooper. Day continued to flee through Clarke and Oconee counties.

"The violator was reckless, passing within the same lane occupied by other vehicles, changing lanes without using his turn signal, and speeding," the release from the Georgia State Patrol said.

Day eventually struck a pickup truck in the rear on Georgia 316 in Barrow County. He sustained serious injuries in the wreck. No other motorists were injured during the chase.
