A man who was suspected in an equipment theft case was found dead in Lake Chatuge in Towns County.

On Monday, the Towns County Sheriff's Office said in a release that the body of Brandon Scott Anderson, age 35 of South Carolina, was found floating in the water near a dock off Georgia 76. The dock was in the same area where Anderson reportedly fled from sheriff's deputies following an incident on March 9.

Anderson was wanted on felony charges of theft by receiving stolen property after deputies allegedly found a stolen excavator at a home on Bugscuffle Road. Terrie Eugenia Miles, age 27 of Liberty, South Carolina, was arrested at the scene, but Anderson allegedly fled into nearby woods and was not found.

Authorities also reportedly found methamphetamine and a carbine rifle inside the excavator.

Towns County Sheriff Ken Henderson said in Monday's release that Anderson's body has been taken to the GBI's crime lab to determine the cause of death, but he said no foul play is suspected.
