By Christian Ashliman Anchor/Reporter

A Gainesville man turned himself in Friday morning after a domestic violence dispute involving a woman and child.

Perfecto Luis Mondragon Benites, 29, allegedly choked a 24-year-old woman on the evening of March 10 at a house on the 2000 block of East Dennis Drive. According to the Hall County Sheriff’s Office, he also hit her in the leg with a belt, all while in the presence of a child.

The woman and child were able to escape to a neighbor's house where they called 911. Benites was no longer at the home when officers arrived on the scene.

They obtained warrants for his arrest, charging Benites with felony aggravated assault and misdemeanor battery, both under the Family Violence Act, as well as misdemeanor third-degree cruelty to children.

Benites turned himself in on the morning of March 17. He was later released on the afternoon of March 18 on a $19,850 bond.
