Basketball: Gainesville boys coach Chuck Graham relieved of his coaching duties

By Bo Wilson Sports Editor

GAINESVILLE, Ga. — Gainesville boys basketball coach Chuck Graham has been "relieved of his coaching responsibilities."

Gainesville superintendent Jeremy Williams confirmed that Graham was released as head coach at the end of the basketball season last month. Graham will remain with the school system in a teaching role.

"Graham was relieved of his coaching responsibilities at the conclusion of the basketball season," Williams said. "We value his investment in our students as a mentor, and he will continue to serve the community in his teaching role."

Graham has been at Gainesville for the last 10 years, five as an assistant under Benjie Wood and five as head coach. Graham said on Monday evening that the "last 10 years will always be special to me."

"God blessed me with the opportunity to coach at Gainesville High and help shape the future of so many players in our program," Graham said. "Gainesville will always mean so much to me. I am thankful to the staff and the community for giving me a chance. The last 10 years will always be special to me."

Graham, who has led the boys program since the 2018-19 season, guided Big Red to three playoff appearances, two first-round and one quarterfinal, and was 70-63 in five seasons. The Red Elephants failed to make the playoffs in the last two seasons.
