Boys soccer: No. 1 Johnson, No. 10 EHall both get wins

ATHENS, Ga. — Class 4A No. 1 Johnson remained unbeaten with a 6-0 win over Cedar Shoals on Tuesday.

It was another solid defensive performance for the Knights (9-0, 4-0 Region 8-4A) defense and keepers Kristian Hernandez and Gabriel Olguín, posting their sixth straight shutout on the season.

Six different players found the net for the Johnson. Jorge Sandoval, Ramon Aguilar, Juliann Pimentel, Daniel Trujillo, Alex Gonzalez and David Arteaga all tallied one goal. Josue Mendoza, Sandoval, Arteaga, and Justin Silva each had one assist.

Johnson next will travel to Class 5A No. 2 Dalton on Friday in a non-region showdown between soccer powerhouses.


EAST HALL 1,
WINDER-BARROW 0 (PK)

The 10th-ranked Vikings picked up a non-region win in penalty kicks on Tuesday at East Hall Stadium. 

The match was tied 0-0 after regulation and both overtime periods and East Hall survived a 7-6 advantage in the penalty kicks.

In PK’s, Amado Valladarez, Yerli Mejia, and Ainor Romero-Turcios, Jairo Aldaco, Miguel Dominguez, Alan Mata all converted kicks, with Jonathan Torres sealing the game with the final attempt.

In regulation East Hall created some threatening chances throughout the first half, but were unable to find the back of the net. In the second half, Mejia, Torres, and Romero-Turcios all had solid scoring chances but narrow misses and great saves kept the score even.

The Vikings (7-2) have won three straight and will travel to Walnut Grove on Friday in a Region 8-4A matchup.
