FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. — The Flowery Branch girls tennis team dropped just one set in taking a 5-0 win over Clarke Central on Tuesday in Region 8-5A play at the Flowery Branch Courts.
The Branch boys, however, dropped a tough 3-2 decision to the Gladiators in region action.
Sandra Hernandez and Katie Martin won in straight sets at Nos. 1 and 2 singles while Avery Marx took a 10-3 win in the third set at No. 3 singles.
The doubles teams of Casey Skaggs and Violet Shultz and Casey Beaver and Haley Bursinger lost just five games in sweeping the doubles.
For the boys, Logan Huntsman at No. 3 singles and the No. 1 doubles team of Josh Warren and Ty Weatherley took a dominating 6-1, 6-1 for the other points for the Falcons.
The No. 2 doubles team of Reid Barnes and Eli King lost a tough three-set match to Connor Mill and Noah Stewart (7-5, 4-6, 6-4) in the deciding match.
BUFORD SWEEPS CENTRAL GWINNETT
Both Buford teams took 5-0 sweeps over the Black Knights in Region 8-7A action.
The boys improved to 8-4 on the season and 2-0 in Region 8 7A play. The Lady Wolves moved to 7-5 overall and 2-0 in region play.
Buford next will participate in the 32nd annual Granger Invitational this weekend.
NORTH HALL SWEEPS JOHNSON
Both North Hall teams took 5-0 sweeps over the Knights in Region 8-4A action.
In the girls match, in singles, Ella Kate Canaday held off Olives a Carpenter 6-2, 6-3; Gabbie Jenkins beat Lu Bagwell 6-1, 6-0; and Lilly Perry beat Bertha Baeza 6-0, 6-0 for the wins. In doubles, Riley Morgan and Callie Clark beat Kaitlyn Artman and Litzy Soto 6-1, 6-1 and Ali Moore and Maggie Perry beat Mia Gamez and Lucelia Castillo 6-0, 6-1.
In the boys match, in singles, Jack Maddox knocked off Adrian Blankenship 6-1, 6-1; Griffin Keener rallied from a set down to beat Angel Hernandez 2-6, 6-4, 6-0; and Jaycob Wagner defeated Alan Sota 6-4, 6-0. In the doubles, Luis Delgado and Easton McNair held off Jesus Valles and Donald Tucobal 7-5, 6-1 and Brooks Dorsey and Logan Adams beat Evan Delong and Bryan Rivas 6-1, 6-2.
Both North Hall teams travel to East Forsyth on Wednesday for another region match.
