Brandon Overton and Wil Herrington made it a Georgia driver sweep in the Peach State as the Schaeffer’s Oil Spring Nationals Series opened the 2023 campaign over the weekend.
Overton was the winner at Georgia’s Swainsboro Raceway on Friday night, while Herrington parked it in victory lane at Georgia’s Senoia Raceway on Saturday night.
On Friday, Brandon Overton swept past early race leader Sam Seawright on lap 10 of the 53-lap feature, and led the rest of the way en route to a $10,053 payday at the 3/8-mile dirt speedway.
It marked the eight career series win for the Evans, Georgia racer.
Seawright finished in second, with Mike Marlar in third, Ethan Dotson in fourth and Carson Ferguson in fifth.
On Saturday, Wil Herrington outlasted the field on an uncharacteristically rough racing surface at Senoia Raceway to score the win.
It was worth $10,053 for the Hawkinsville, Georgia driver, giving him his first series career.
Herrington led the first eight laps of the feature – which was cut to 35 laps due to the rugged track conditons – before giving way to Ashton Winger.
After Winger suffered mechanical woes while leading the field on lap 15, Herrington grabbed the point for good on the restart and led the rest of the way.
Ross Bailes, Parker Martin, Jr., Haiden Cowan, and Commerce, Georgia’s Payton Freeman rounded out the top 10.
The Schaeffer’s Oil Spring Nationals Series will return to action on Friday, March 10 at North Georgia Speedway in Chatsworth, Georgia. The tour then travels to 411 Motor Speedway in Seymour, Tennessee on Saturday, March 11. For more info, visit SouthernNationalsSeries.com.
