HOOVER, Ala. — Buford dropped a pair of games on Friday in the 2023 Perfect Game High School Showdown.
A late Wolves rally fell short in 6-5 loss to Oxford (Ala.) and then they lost 7-0 to powerhouse Bob Jones out of Huntsville.
Against Oxford, The Wolves (2-4) trailed 6-2 going into the seventh inning. rally in the 7th inning, but freshman Bubba Coleman drilled a 3-run homer, the first his varsity career, to get them within a run. They got the tying run on base but Nate Taylor struck out to end the game.
They had led twice at 1-0 in the first and 2-1 in the second but Oxford scored three in the fourth and two in the fifth to take control.
Taylor (1-1) took the loss on the mound giving up six runs on four hits and three walks in four innings. He fanned a pair of Oxford batters.
Coleman finished with two hits and sophomore Cannon Goldin had a pair of doubles and scored twice. Junior Ethan Murray had a hit and an RBI and Senior Cole Taylor also had a hit for Buford.
