DAHLONEGA, Ga. — After three seasons at Lumpkin County, Michael Parker has stepped down as the boys coach of the Indians.
Parker confirmed the resignation Friday morning.
Parker had been an assistant under former coach Jeff Steele before taking over the program in 2020. He was also a long-time assistant under Steele at Johnson.
“I want to thank Dr. (Rob) Brown and Mr. (Billy) Kirk for the opportunity to lead the Lumpkin basketball program for the last three years," Parker said in a statement on Friday. "After conversations with the administration and my family, I have made the decision to resign as the head basketball coach at Lumpkin County High School. I love my team and wouldn’t trade these past three years for anything.
"As I told the team yesterday before a nice house is built, you have to lay the foundation. These guys have built a strong foundation, and I believe the best days are ahead for Lumpkin boys basketball. I have no doubt that there are bright days ahead, and am looking forward to watching them have great success in the future.”
The Indians finished 4-22 this past season and just 1-11 in Region 7-3A play. During Parker's three seasons, they were 22-53 overall and 9-29 in region play.
