The State Route 183 Bridge over Cochran Creek in Dawson County will be temporarily closed for 120 days beginning March 22.
The Georgia Department of Transportation's contractor, Talley Construction Company, Inc., will replace the bridge located six miles northwest of Dawsonville.
According to a press release, the new bridge will be constructed on the existing horizontal and vertical alignment which will require the road to be closed for a period of time to demolish the old bridge and install a new one.
Traffic will be diverted via an offsite detour using SR-136 and Keith Evans Rd. The Detour will last untill July 20; however, dates may change depending on weather conditions.
The new bridge section will consist of two 12-ft lanes with a 10-ft rural shoulder (4-ft will be paved) along the roadway and 6-ft along the bridge. The approximate project length is 0.4 miles.
Motorists may expect delays during construction periods and are requested to exercise caution, and reduce speed while traveling through work zones.
