Boys soccer: EHall, Johnson take 8-4A wins; GHS beats Bluff in Copa play

RABBITTOWN, Ga. — East Hall rebounded from its first region loss on Tuesday with a tough 3-1 win over Seckinger on Friday at East Hall Stadium.

Yerli Mejia scored in the 7th minute off a free kick to give the Vikings (5-2, 2-1 Region 8-4A) the early lead. But they couldn’t add to it as it went to the half that.

Seckinger tied it at 1 less than 20 seconds into the second half and the two battles back and forth until Oscar Barcenas broke the tie in the 53rd minute on a penalty kick after a foul in the box on the Jaguars (1-5-1, 0-3 Region 8-4A). 

Alan Mata scored five minutes later off a Ainor Romero-Turcios assist for the final tally of the night.

Class 4A No. 5 East Hall next will play host to Cedar Shoals on Tuesday in another 8-4A matchup.


JOHNSON 7,
MADISON COUNTY 0

The Class 4A top-ranked Knights continued to roll as well in 8-4A play.

The Johnson defense did not allow a shot on goal and the Knights offense dominated possession to stay unbeaten (7-0, 2-0 Region 8-4A).

Six different players found the net for Johnson, led by Jorge Sandoval’s brace.

Juliann Pimentel, David Artega, Michael Grimaldo, Junior Castillo and Juan Jacinto also scored for the Knights.

Kristian Hernandez got the win in goal without having to make a save.


GAINESVILLE 4, 
CHEROKEE BLUFF 2

The Class 6A fourth-ranked Red Elephants fell behind on a Bears goal in the first 10 minutes but rallied for their fourth straight win in a Copa 985 match at City Park Stadium.

Gainesville’s Justin Arriaga scored in the 25th minute to tie the match and Henry Bonilla found the net with just 7 seconds left in the first half for the lead. The Red Elephants extended their lead to 4-1 in the second half on a pair of goals from Ozmar Marceleno. 

Bluff (3-4) scored late but could not get any closer. The Bears fell to 2-2 in Copa 985 play.

Gainesville is 7-1 on the season and 4-1 in Copa 985 play.
