Habersham Co. family displaced by house fire

By AccessWDUN Staff

A family of two adults and six children were displaced Saturday by a house fire in Mt. Airy.

Habersham County fire crews were called to a residence on Chimney Rise Road at 5:01 a.m., according to Habersham County Emergency Services and Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer Rob Moore.

“When units got on scene, they found a single-wide mobile home about 75 percent engulfed in flames,” Moore said.

Fire crew members were forced to shuttle water from the nearest fire hydrant, which was two miles away from where the property.

“It’s not uncommon in this area for jurisdictions not to have hydrants close to a home,” Moore said.

The fire was fully extinguished around 8:30 a.m.

No injuries were reported, and the family is getting assistance from the American Red Cross, Moore said.
