HOMER, Ga. — The Banks County girls captured their first region championship since 2018 with a 54-37 win over Athens Academy on Thursday in the Region 8-2A title game at the Banks County gym.
The Lady Leopards (24-3) jumped on the Lady Spartans (18-6) right from the start. Ryleigh Murphy and Addison Hoard set the early pace combining for 15 points in the opening frame as Banks County led 18-8.
Banks County increased its lead every quarter, taking a 29-16 lead into halftime and 43-26 heading into the fourth.
Murphy finished with 22 points to lead Banks County. Hoard had 14 points for the Lady Leopards.
India Sheats and Madeline Ransom had 7 points apiece to lead Athens Academy.
