A man from Gainesville was arrested early in February following a foot chase after allegedly hitting a pregnant woman with his vehicle on Burruss Mill Road in Cumming.

Damian Ashton Berryman, 26, was arrested by the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office on Feb. 2, on a long list of charges, including aggravated assault, reckless driving, failure to stop and render aid and obstruction of a law enforcement officer.

According to an incident report from the agency, a deputy responded to a person hit by a vehicle call after the caller stated a pregnant woman was allegedly intentionally struck by the mirror of the vehicle. The driver, Berryman, lost control of the vehicle after hitting the woman and left the scene on foot.

The arriving deputy saw the vehicle wrecked in a ditch with no one inside. Witnesses on the scene directed the officer in the direction in which Berryman had left toward on foot moments before the deputy arrived on the scene.

The deputy was able to locate Berryman, who refused to cooperate with commands given to him to get on the ground. A foot chase then ensued. Berryman was eventually taken into custody.

A social media post from the agency said 15 deputies were on the scene manning the perimeter at the time of the chase.
