UPDATE:
The roadway at Queen City Parkway and West Ridge Road has reopened following an incident where a semi-truck snagged an overhead traffic light line attached to a pole, causing the pole and other lines to fall to the ground.
Officials indicate Georgia Power and City of Gainesville crews worked this afternoon and evening to get the intersection reopened as fast as possible.
AS OF 1:45 P.M.:
Gainesville drivers should temporarily choose an alternate route as the Queen City Parkway and West Ridge Road intersection was shut down just before 2 p.m. following a traffic incident.
Gainesville Police Lt. Kevin Holbrook said the intersection will be closed for an extended period. A Facebook post from the agency said drivers should use alternate routes through the afternoon rush hour.
A truck reportedly struck one or more of the guidewires at the intersection, causing the traffic lights to entangle with another truck.
Holbrook said authorities were waiting for utility crews to arrive shortly before 2 p.m.
