Lumpkin County authorities investigating after vandalism at several churches

By Austin Eller News Director

The Lumpkin County Sheriff's Office is investigating after three churches were vandalized Saturday night west of Dahlonega.

Lumpkin County Sheriff Stacy Jarrard said the incidents happened at three churches near Georgia 52 West, as well as at a gas station near the roundabout at Ga. 52 and Dawsonville Highway.

Regarding the churches, Jarrard said when officers arrived, some of the windows were open, windows were busted out, doors were left open, and the suspect or suspects also cut the main power to the churches.

"They went in the churches, shifted some things around," Jarrard said.

Jarrard said they were unaware of any missing items from the churches as of Monday afternoon.

He said it was possible the suspect or suspects were attempting a burglary at the gas station, but they believe an alarm at the building might have run them off.

The agency is offering a reward for information that leads to the arrest of the person or persons that were responsible for the incidents. Anyone with information should contact the Lumpkin County Sheriff's Office at (706) 864-0414
