The Georgia Mountain Food Bank welcomes a new interim executive director following the retirement of longtime executive director, Kay Blackstock.

Rebecca Thurman, who has worked for the food bank for nearly seven and a half years, previously held the position as Director of Operations. Thurman will now fill the interim executive director position as the organization transitions into new leadership.

"Under [Blackstock's] leadership and guidance, the food bank has become what it is," Thurman said. "I have some big shoes to fill, but we can make it happen."

Blackstock held the director's position at the food bank since August 2011. She was a driving force for the organization and helped the non-profit grow into the success it is today.

The Georgia Mountain Food Bank's Board of Directors released a statement Friday regarding Blackstock's retirement. The board highlighted her contribution to the food bank throughout the years.

"Kay has been an integral part of the organization since its inception, and we as the board of directors and staff, thank her and wish her the best in all her future endeavors," the Board of Directors said.
