No one was injured after a loaded Amtrak passenger train hit a car Tuesday morning after it got stuck on train tracks in Buford.

According to an incident report from the Gwinnett County Police Department, the incident happened just after midnight Tuesday on train tracks near the intersection of Lanier Avenue and Railroad Avenue.

A 19-year-old man from Sugar Hill was driving a Kia Optima sedan and had attempted to make a right turn from Railroad Avenue onto Lanier Avenue when the vehicle accidentally went off the west side of the road and got stuck on the tracks.

The driver was not injured, so he called some friends to try to help him get the vehicle off the tracks. While they were attempting to move the vehicle, they noticed a train was traveling in their direction. Those at the scene then moved away from the vehicle to avoid injury.

The conductor of the loaded Amtrak passenger train said they did see the vehicle stalled on the tracks, but they were unable to stop the train in time.

The train then struck the vehicle. No injuries were reported.

The roadway was reopened shortly after.
