GBI arrests Cleveland man on drug and weapons charges

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation arrested on Tuesday, Dec. 19 a man on drug and gun charges in Cleveland.

A release from the GBI said the White County Sheriff’s Office alongside the Appalachian Regional Drug Enforcement Office arrested Michael Thompson, 56, of Cleveland at his residence. 

Authorities began investigating Thompson in October after receiving a tip that he may be selling drugs. 

The GBI said a search warrant for his home was obtained. Authorities recovered nearly 47 grams of suspected methamphetamine, one pound of suspected marijuana, several pills, 15 firearms, and money during the search. 

Thompson was arrested and charged with Possession of marijuana with intent to distribute trafficking in methamphetamine possession of a controlled substance (Schedule II) possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony (15 counts)and unlawful possession of firearms or weapons. 

Thompson was booked into the White County Detention Center.
