Chase leads to arrest of Hall County entering auto suspect

By AccessWDUN Staff
A foot chase in Gainesville Monday afternoon led to the arrest of a suspect who was wanted for a number of crimes in Hall County.

Chad Howard Harvell, age 34 of Gainesville, was arrested Monday afternoon after the incident involving multiple law enforcement agencies. A report from the Georgia State Patrol said a trooper attempted to pull over a dirt bike that was traveling on Club Drive without a license plate.

The driver of the dirt bike, later identified as Harvell, failed to stop, leading to the chase. He was eventually caught and the dirt bike was discovered to be stolen. He was also found with a stolen handgun, according to the Hall County Sheriff's Office. Ring camera footage submitted to AccessWDUN by a reader showed the man running from a state trooper in a residential area.

The Hall County Sheriff's Office said investigators obtained additional warrants for Harvell for the stolen dirt bike and handgun, which were tied to two open cases. The sheriff's office charged Harvell with first-degree burglary, theft by taking, theft by receiving and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, all felonies.

According to the preliminary investigation, Harvell stole the motorcycle during an early morning Nov. 30 burglary in the 3000 block of Eleanor's Trace. During the crime, he also stole items including a backpack blower, chainsaw, power tools and a handgun. The handgun recovered during the chase with the state patrol was stolen during an entering auto on Oct. 25 in the 5000 block of Merlin Drive.

As of Thursday afternoon, he remained in the Hall County Jail without bond on a list of 22 total charges ranging from possession of methamphetamine to burglary of a residential dwelling.

Gainesville Police Department officials confirmed that city police also aided the state patrol in Monday's pursuit.

The Georgia State Patrol said the full incident report was not yet available for release.
