The Hall County Sheriff's Office released on Tuesday more information on a Saturday morning pursuit on Interstate 985.
The Georgia State Patrol previously told AccessWDUN that Makenna Raye Steed, 23, of Canton, Michigan, was injured in a wreck while fleeing from authorities on the Interstate.
In an update Tuesday, the Hall County Sheriff's Office said deputies were notified at about 2:20 a.m. Saturday about a car traveling north on the interstate at about 95 mph.
"Because of the driver’s disregard for safety, the significant risk to other vehicles and her refusal to stop for law enforcement, deputies first identified the speeding vehicle, a 2014 Ford Mustang, and then successfully deployed a spike strip just south of Exit 20 (Ga. 60/Candler Road)," Hall County Sheriff's Office Public Information Officer Derreck Booth said in an email.
Instead of stopping, Steed continued north for about 2.5 miles before wrecking the Mustang in the area of mile marker 22.
Hall County Fire Services transported Steed to Northeast Georgia Medical Center for treatment of injuries.
She was charged with DUI alcohol/less safe, reckless driving and fleeing or attempting to elude. Flowery Branch Police also obtained warrants for Steed related to traffic offenses in its jurisdiction.
Booth said Steed had not been booked into the Hall County Jail as of Tuesday morning. The agency also did not have any information on Steed's medical condition or her hospital status.
