Habersham County Government on Friday honored 52 county employees during its annual Service Awards Breakfast at the county's Ruby Fulbright Aquatic Center.
According to a press release from the county, 50 employees were recognized for five to 30 years of service each to county government, with another being honored for 40 years and one for serving 55 years.
Diana Gallegos of the county's Information Technology Department was recognized for 40 years of service, while Chief Appraiser Joan Church was honored for 55 years of service.
Habersham County Commission Chairman Ty Akins presented certificates to each of those recognized.
"County Manager Alicia Vaughn, Akins, and Palmer all praised the work and dedication of all county employees, saying county leaders realize employees can find better compensation in the private sector but choose to serve their fellow citizens here at home," the release said.
The 52 county employees were recognized for a combined 650 years of service.
"What was not evident is that that number is significantly higher because eight of those who were recognized previously worked for the Hospital Authority of Habersham County in the emergency medical services run by Habersham County Medical Center for a combined additional 151 years," the release said.
