Several weekend holiday events canceled or postponed amid rain concerns

Several weekend holiday events across the Northeast Georgia area have been either canceled or postponed amid Saturday rain concerns.

AccessWDUN Meteorologist John Wetherbee said showers are likely throughout the day Saturday, with thunderstorms in the afternoon.

Events which have been canceled or postponed include the following:

  • Downtown Clarkesville Christmas and Habersham County Christmas Parade
    • Rescheduled to Thursday, Dec. 7 from 5 to 8 p.m.
    • A cookie crawl, music and photos with Santa will begin at 5 p.m. The parade will begin at 6 p.m. Additionally, another opportunity for free photos with Santa will take place at the gazebo on Friday, Dec. 8 from 5 to 8 p.m.

  • Christmas in Clayton
    • Rescheduled to Friday, Dec. 8
    • The parade starts at 6 p.m. A candle lighting will be held at 7:30 p.m.

  • Towns County Sheriff's Office Christmas Parade
  • City of Baldwin Christmas Tree Lighting
  • City of Lawrenceville Hometown Holiday Parade
  • City of Lilburn Christmas Parade and Tree Lighting
    • The Christmas parade has been canceled and will not be held in 2023. The tree lighting has been rescheduled to Saturday, Dec. 9 from 3 to 6 p.m. in Lilburn City Hall.

While the previously mentioned events have been modified due to the rain, several other area events are still planned for this weekend. These include the following:

  • 2023 City of Jefferson Christmas Parade
    • Saturday, Dec. 2 beginning at 11 a.m.
    • The city said the event will be rain or shine unless there are safety concerns due to the weather.

  • Christmas in Lula Festival and Parade
    • Saturday, Dec. 2 beginning at 4 p.m.
    • The festival runs from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Lula Depot. The parade will be held at 6 p.m. at Veterans Park.

  • White County's 39th annual Christmas in the Mountains
    • Saturday, Dec. 2 beginning at 5 p.m.
    • The holiday market kicks off at the Cleveland Courthouse Square at 5 p.m. The parade begins at 7 p.m.
