By Caleb Hutchins Assistant News Director

A Cleveland man is now facing charges in a May crash in Flowery Branch that ultimately killed a moped driver.

Hall County Sheriff's Office officials confirmed Wednesday that William Emery Olmstead, age 42, turned himself in to county authorities on Monday on charges of Second Degree Homicide by Vehicle and Failure to Maintain Lane.

The crash happened May 4 at the intersection of Hog Mountain Road and Credit Drive. Hall County Sheriff's Office investigators reportedly determined that Olmstead turned left from Hog Mountain Road onto Credit Drive and turned into the wrong lane, striking the moped that was stopped at the stop sign.

The driver of the moped driver, Christopher Lee Powell, age 36 of Flowery Branch, was taken to a nearby hospital in critical condition. He died of his injuries 13 days later.

Olmstead has been released from the Hall County Jail on $10,000 bond.
