Officials in Barrow County are temporarily halting the issuance of burn permits amid drought conditions across Northeast Georgia.
A social media post from the Barrow County Fire Department Sunday said the conditions have led to high fire danger levels in the area. No date was given for when permits will be issued again, but officials did say that the Barrow County Fire Marshal's office would re-evaluate the danger level on Thursday after expected rainfall.
Most of Barrow County is currently under moderate drought conditions according to the latest data from the U.S. Drought Monitor, with the far eastern parts of the county being under severe drought.
