By Bo Wilson Sports Editor

Union County and Johnson requested lateral transfers to a different region in the latest installment of Georgia High School Association reclassification drama.

In Class 2A, Union County was initially placed in Region 8-2A with East Jackson, Franklin County, Hart County, Hebron Christian, Prince Avenue Christian and Stephens. The school administrators at Union County decided to appeal to move to Region 7-2A. The Northwest Georgia region houses Coahulla Creek, Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe, Murray County, North Murray, Ringgold, Rockmart and Sonoraville.

Union County's appeal will be heard Thursday at the GHSA office in Thomaston at 11:10 a.m.

In Class 3A, six Hall County schools were split into two regions. Johnson, Cherokee Bluff, East Hall and West Hall were placed with Jefferson, Monroe Area and Oconee County to make Region 8-3A. Meanwhile, in Region 6-3A, Chestatee and North Hall joined Dawson County, Gilmer, Greater Atlanta Christian, Lumpkin County, Pickens and White County. Now, Johnson is asking to move west of I-985 into Region 6-3A.

Johnson's appeal will be heard on Thursday at 10:50 a.m. Gilmer also requests to move out of Region 6-3A and into Region 7-3A.
