More roadwork is targeted for Interstate 85 in Northeast Georgia.
GDOT officials are planning for traffic lane shifts along I-85 by the Ridgeway Church Road bridge and North Oconee River overpass, beginning on Friday, November 17.
The I-85 Widening, Phase III project will improve mobility by widening the interstate from two to three lanes from US 129 to US 441 in Jackson and Banks counties.
This project will create additional capacity for more reliable travel times and more efficient movement of freight. Motorists should be advised that this work zone will create a reduced speed limit to keep contractors and motorists safe.
The work will create lane shifts in both directions for mainline bridge work and lane widening during night time hours.
GDOT says the Phase 3 widening project in Jackson and Banks Counties is part of their plans for nearly 13 miles of lane increases extending to the South Carolina line.
