Gainesville man identified as suspect of stolen vehicle case in Habersham County

By AccessWDUN Staff

Habersham County authorities said Marvin Scott, 45 of Gainesville is the suspect who allegedly fled from a traffic stop Thursday morning while driving a stolen vehicle.

"A partial tag and the vehicle description were enough to trigger that the vehicle matched one stolen in DeKalb County, prompting the traffic stop to investigate further," Habersham County Public Information Officer Rob Moore said.

The Habersham County Sheriff’s Office has charged Scott with theft by receiving stolen property, obstruction of an officer, obscured or missing license plate and driving while license suspended or revoked.

Habersham County authorities have arrested a suspect who fled from a traffic stop Thursday morning while driving a stolen vehicle.

Habersham County Public Information Officer Rob Moore said a Habersham County Sheriff's Corporal conducted a traffic stop on a stolen vehicle at about 4 a.m. on Ga. 365 at Demorest-Mt. Airy Highway.

The driver then got out of the car and ran on foot, setting into motion an almost four-hour manhunt in the Demorest and Cornelia areas.

A person at Hampton Inn then reported just before 8 a.m. that the man was hiding in the woods near the establishment. The man was then arrested in the area between Hampton Inn and McGahee-Griffin & Stewart Funeral Home.

The man, who refused to give his name, will be charged with theft by receiving stolen vehicle, obstruction for running and concealing a tag.

Demorest Elementary School and Wilbanks Middle School on Demorest-Mt. Airy Highway were checked and cleared by officers prior to the school day to ensure no one was on campus or had broken in following the traffic stop.

Deputies had no information to indicate the man was armed or posed a danger to the public.

As of Thursday morning, the man continued to refuse to give his name to officers at the detention center.
