ATHENS, Ga. — According to Georgia High School Football Daily, Athens Christian has elected to forfeited its Class A Division I first-round playoff game against nearby Prince Avenue Christian. The game had been scheduled for Friday.
The Eagles have been playing the entire 2023 season with less than 20 players and several freshmen and have been outscored 506-42 on the season. The Region 8-A Division 1 school is in the same region with Commerce, Rabun County, and Elbert County, who were ranked 2nd, 6th, and 7th in the final regular season poll.
Athens Christian finished 0-11 in 2023, its first winless season in program history. The Eagles were 4-7 in 2022 and 7-5 in 2021.
Prince Avenue, according to the computer Maxwell Ratings, was a 63-point favorite coming into the game. The Wolverines (10-1) move into the second round and will await the Pepperell-Mount Vernon winner next week.
