HOMER, Ga. — Jay Reid stepped down on Wednesday as the Banks County head coach after six seasons.
Reid made the announcement on his twitter page. In it, Reid stated that, “we sometimes must make the most difficult decisions and say the hardest of farewells. To all of my players and coaches that I have worked with over the years, I will miss you dearly.”
“We were not expecting this, for sure,” Banks County Athletic Director Natasha Savage said. “But we appreciate the hard work and dedication Coach Reid gave to the program and the players the past six seasons.”
Reid posted a 19-42 record with the Leopards in one of the more difficult regions in Class 2A with the likes of Rabun County, Union County, and Elbert County, and then with private schools Fellowship Christian and Athens Academy the past two seasons. They made two playoff appearances (2020 and 2021) in Reid’s time in Homer.
For now, Reid said he has no plans other than a hunting trip in Illinois.
“I’m going to stay and teach at Banks County and I haven’t really had much time to think about anything other than that,” he said. “I’m going to take some time while I’m gone hunting to try and decide what I want to do. But as far as that, I have no real plans (about coaching anywhere else) at the moment.”
Reid’s full statement on X (formerly twitter):
“For the last six years I have been blessed to call Banks County home and have been blessed by a tremendous football FAMILY. It is with a sorrowful heart that I step down as Head Football Coach. When we ask the Lord for guidance in our future we never know how those prayers will be answered. When truly following that guidance we sometimes must make the most difficult decisions and say the hardest of farewells. To all of my players and coaches that I have worked with over the years, I will miss you dearly and want you to all know that I am always a phone call away if you need me. To the Banks County community and administration, thank you for giving me the opportunity to lead this program and taking my Family and I in as one of your own. This place and you all will always hold a dear place in my heart. Go Leopards!”
