Longtime educator in Northeast Georgia passes away

A long time educator in Northeast Georgia with ties to Clermont and Brookton has passed away.

Rachel McEver Farmer was a graduate from Brenau University and began her teaching career in 1960 at Sardis Elementary School where she taught for one year and then moved to Brookton Elementary to teach 4th grade.

She taught there until Wauka Mountain School opened and replaced Brookton. She retired from teaching at the end of the 1994-95 school year. She also helped in after school programs after she retired from teaching full time.

In addition to teaching, Ms. Farmer served as chair / co-chair of the Annual Chicken Pie Supper every year and was a faithful member of Dewberry Baptist Church #1 since 1959 where filled many roles as a member, taught Sunday school, and played piano.

Rachel McEver Farmer is survived by her husband of 64 years, Rex Farmer, as well as their two sons and their extended families. She was 89.
