Gainesville City School Board member Sammy Smith was presented with the Pioneer in Education award.
Smith was named the Pioneer in Education at Monday’s board meeting.
Pioneer RESA presents the award annually to individuals who make a positive impact on students and education.
Each of the 15 districts within its service area names its recipient.
Smith is currently in his fourth term and has spent 16 years on the school board announced earlier this year that he will retire at the end of 2023.
