Pedestrian seriously hurt in Dawson County collision

By Steve Winslow Anchor/Reporter

A Jasper man was seriously injured from a weekend collision along a state route through Dawson County.

A report from Georgia State Patrol says Jeffrey Wayne Mulkey, 55, was walking along State Route 53 by Main Street near the Mountain Moonshine Festival at around 3:15 p.m. Saturday when he was struck by the Toyota RAV 4 driven by John Tucker, 73, of Tennessee.

Tucker was traveling south on State Route 53 as Mulkey reportedly tried to cross the roadway from the west shoulder at an unmarked location.

Mulkey was taken from the accident site to a nearby hospital. No word of any charges from the collision, which remains under Georgia State Patrol investigation.
