DUI charges are pending after a single-vehicle accident shut down a northbound and southbound lane of I-985 in Hall County on Sunday morning.

Javier Velez was reported to be the at-fault driver in the accident, and was said to be the only occupant of a 2006 Acura sedan at the time of the crash.

"At approximately 9:39 A.M., troopers responded to a single-vehicle crash on I-985 in Hall County," the Georgia State Patrol [GSP] said early Sunday evening.

Velez was apparently traveling north on I-985 when his vehicle struck a guardrail just north of H.F. Reed Industrial Parkway.

Troopers say Velez was believed to be intoxicated at the time.

"The driver...failed to maintain his lane, traveled off the roadway left and struck a guardrail," the GSP said. "After striking the guardrail, the Acura overturned in the median."

Velez suffered minor injuries in the crash, and was transported from the scene to Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville.

A single lane of travel was closed off to both north and southbound traffic on I-985 while the accident was investigated and cleared.
