PEACHTREE CORNERS, Ga. – In a back-and-forth matchup, it was Wesleyan that came out in front in a big region 7-3A matchup against White County by a 27-24 final score.
Wesleyan scored late in the first quarter to take the early lead before White County got on the board with a 26-yard field goal from Hayden Vandegriff made it 7-3. The Wolves answered immediately with a 56-yard passing score to stretch the lead out to 14-3 by halftime.
In the third quarter, Tripp Nix found the endzone for the Warriors' first touchdown on the night on a 16-yard rushing score that was followed up by a Jason Revis pick-six on the first play of the fourth quarter that pushed the Warriors in front for the first time, 17-14.
After the Wolves answered but missed an extra point, Ryan Fowler took advantage of a massive kickoff return and gave White County the lead, 24-20, but the Wolves answered with 3:21 to play and then held off a furious drive by White County to get the region win.
White County will host West Hall next week as they look to get back on the winning track.
