DAHLONEGA, Ga. – The passing game showed what it could do Friday night in Dahlonega as Lumpkin County wasted no time getting past Gilmer, 56-3.
Cal Faulkner threw for 232 yards on 22-of-25 passing, accounting for three passing and one rushing touchdown on the night. It started with a 29-yard passing score to Walker Scott on the opening possession of the game. After the Bobcats nearly returned the ensuing kickoff for a touchdown the other way, the Indian defense stood up and held Gilmer to a field goal.
From that point, it was all Indians as Mason Sullens scored the next two touchdowns before Faulkner found Nolan Matthews and Harper Davenport before halftime to run the score to 35-3. Faulkner opened the scoring in the third quarter with a 1-yard touchdown run, followed by Sullens' third rushing score of the night. Jackson Bell punched in the final touchdown for Lumpkin County as they improved to 7-0 on the year.
Sullens finished the night with 185 yards on 19 carries, while Faulkner linked up with six different receivers on his near perfect passing performance.
The Indians have next week off before hosting White County in the final regular season home game.
