An afternoon fire in Gainesville sent one individual to the hospital with reported minor injuries and caused smoke damage to a home following a cooking incident.
The Gainesville Fire Department responded to a call of a residential fire Thursday on Oakland Avenue at approximately 1:35 p.m. The fire was the result of a cooking incident, according to Division Chief Josh Sheridan.
One victim was transported to Northeast Georgia Medical Center with minor injuries and two dogs were successfully removed from the home and left in the care of a neighbor.
The home sustained what officials say was moderate damage, primarily in the kitchen, with smoke damage throughout the rest of the house.
No further details have been released by officials at this time.
