The Gainesville City School Board will honor two board members with a retirement ceremony.
Sammy Smith and Willie Mitchell have combined to serve on the Board for over 50 years and will retire at the end of 2023.
The event will take place on Nov. 28th from 5:30 until 7:00 p.m at the Gainesville Civic Center Ballroom.
"As I come to the end of this journey, one of the things that most people don't know, is that every time that I had competition, I would always pray, I would always say, God, this is your will and let me know by not having any the competition and it never happened," Board Member Willie Mitchell says. "One of the things that I've learned over the years, is certain things that just don't work and the reason that they just don't work is for the simple fact is that maybe that spiritual guidance that we need, is not there," he continues.
