The principal of Gainesville's Centennial Arts Academy announced Tuesday she will retire at the end of the current school year.
Leslie Frierson has served as the principal of the school for the past eight years. She began her career as an educator in Gwinnett County schools as an elementary school teacher. She came to Centennial in 2003 as a fourth-grade teacher where she served for six years before becoming an assistant principal, and eventually principal.
“It has been a true honor to serve the students, their families, and the staff of Centennial for the past 14 years as an administrator," Frierson said. "It is my hope that I have helped to create an environment for all students that has provided them with encouragement, love and support as they develop academically. I love Gainesville City and am so proud to be a part of this amazing community."
Frierson will complete the school year in her current role. A job search will begin soon
“Mrs. Frierson is part of the fabric of Centennial,” Gainesville Schools Superintendent Jeremy Williams said. “Her leadership has shaped the culture of Centennial. Leslie's commitment to students and families will be greatly missed as Centennial turns the page to the next chapter. We will miss her infectious personality and genuine love for kids.”
“Leaders like Mrs. Frierson are what make Gainesville City Schools special,” Gainesville City Schools Board of Education Chairman, Andy Stewart said. “She leads with kindness and compassion and has developed lasting relationships with many of her students. Centennial has one of the biggest turnouts each year for the Elephant Walk when Seniors go back to visit their elementary schools. She really builds school spirit and can always be found on the sidelines at GHS supporting one of her former elementary students.”
