NGTC names new campus police chief

North Georgia Technical College named Mark Fitzpatrick as chief of campus police on January 2.

In his previous role, Fitzpatrick served as a special operations commander at the Gwinett County Police Department. He was responsible for SWAT, aviation, K9, DUI, accident investigations, motors unit and explosive ordinance disposal divisions. Fitzpatrick started at the GCPD in 1996 and has worn many different hats over the years, including police officer, corporal, sergeant, lieutenant and police major.

Prior to his service with the GCPD, Fitzpatrick worked for the Gwinett County Sheriff’s Department, starting in 1992. He holds a master of arts degree in homeland security and defense from the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California. He also has a bachelor of business administration degree in finance from Georgia State University, and an associate degree in business administration from the University of North Georgia.

Currently, he and his wife Linda reside in Cleveland.

In a press release, NGTC executive vice president of administrative services Michele Shirley said she applauds Fitzpatrick’s wealth of knowledge and experience.

“We are excited to welcome Chief Fitzpatrick to North Georgia Technical College,” Shirley said. “His knowledge and experience will be an invaluable asset to our college, and we look forward to his leadership in this role as he works with students, faculty, staff and the community.”

NGTC President John Wilkinson said Fitzpatrick’s background will bolster the community and safety of students on campus.

“We are proud to welcome Chief Fitzpatrick to the NGTC family,” Wilkinson said. “His background in law enforcement and years of service are a true testament to his knowledge and abilities and make him an ideal candidate for this position. I look forward to working with him to serve our students and our community.”
