By Caleb Hutchins Assistant News Director

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is looking into an officer-involved shooting that happened in southern Gwinnett County early Monday morning.

In a release, the GBI says they were called to investigate the incident by the Snellville Police Department after one of its officers was involved in the incident.

The officer, who has not been named, reportedly spotted a car at the Speedway gas station on West Main Street around 5:00 a.m. that had been issued an internal "be on the lookout" for incidents that happened earlier that morning. The driver of the car was suspected to be armed with a handgun.

The officer reportedly saw the driver leaving the gas station and briefly spoke with him before the man pulled out a handgun pointed it at the officer. The officer then shot the suspect.

The suspect, who has been identified as Raymond Johnson, age 28, of Loganville, was taken to a nearby hospital and was treated. He was then taken to the Gwinnett County Jail.

This is the sixth officer-involved shooting in the state of Georgia in the first month of 2023.
