A Georgia state senator and former Hall County commissioner has been appointed as the next chair of the senate's Committee on Reapportionment and Redistricting.
Senator Shelly Echols (R-Gainesville) was appointed to the position Thursday as she begins her first session as a senator after being elected in 2022. The committee draws state and congressional district lines.
In a release, Echols said she was appreciative of the appointment.
“Thank you to the Senate Committee on Assignments as well as Lt. Governor Burt Jones for entrusting me during my freshman session in the Georgia General Assembly,” Echols said.
Echols will also serve as the ex-officio of the Senate Committee on Agriculture and Consumer Affairs as well as a member of the Senate Committee on Education and Youth, Finance and Health and Human Services.
