By AccessWDUN Staff

A three-vehicle accident Wednesday evening involving a tractor-trailer on Interstate 85 in Barrow County sent a driver to the hospital with burns.

According to the Georgia State Patrol, the accident happened at Ga. 211 and forced the interstate's northbound lanes to shut down for several hours.

An investigation revealed that a tractor-trailer struck two vehicles in the rear as they were attempting to exit the interstate at exit 126. The truck ran off the right side of the roadway and struck the overhead road sign structure.

The truck became fully engulfed in flames. The driver of the vehicle suffered burns and was airlifted to Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta. Officials have not released information about the extent of the driver's injuries.

The lanes were re-opened at about 10:35 p.m. Wednesday.

The Georgia Department of Transportation set up a detour on I-85 North near mile marker 118 until the lanes re-opened.
