COVINGTON, Ga. — Flowery Branch snapped Eastside’s 12-game win streak with a thrilling 58-56 win over the Eagles on the road Friday night in Region 8-5A action.
The Falcons (12-3, 2-2 Region 8-5A) led 18-12 early but were held to just 7 second quarter points to fall behind 31-25 by halftime. But Branch turned up the defense in the second half.
Eastside (13-2, 4-1 Region 8-5A) managed just 25 points the rest of the way. Jackson Owens and Tyleek Worth provided a solid inside-outside punch as the Falcons used a 16-9 third quarter to grab a 41-40 lead and then held on down the stretch.
Owens finished with 18 points to lead Branch. Worth poured in 15 points and Fe Honors 12 as they dominated the inside. Jayden Gudz added 9 points for the Falcons.
Eastside was paced by Kassen Sanders with 17 points and Trebor Edwards with 15. But the pair was held to just 2 total points in the pivotal third quarter.
Branch will play host to Loganville on Tuesday with a shot at third place in the early standings on the line.
WEST HALL 38,
WESLEYAN 32
The Spartans put on a defensive display holding the Wolves to their lowest output of the season in taking a huge Region 7-3A win on the road on Friday.
West Hall (8-8, 3-1 Region 7-3A) held Wesleyan to 11 points or less in all four quarters. The Spartans took an 18-16 lead into halftime but blew the game open with a 16-7 third quarter for a 34-23 lead. Wesleyan never got closer than two the rest of the way.
Isaiah Holder had a big game scoring 8 points but controlled the boards with 10 rebounds and added 3 big blocks. Quintavious Reid and Zach Stephens also were big on the defensive end for the Spartans.
The win moved West Hall into second place in the region. Wesleyan (8-5, 1-2 Region 7-3A) fell into a tie for fifth with the loss.
The Spartans also got balanced scoring despite their lowest output of the season. Owen Jenkins led the way with 10 points. Holder and Reid each had 8 points and Stephens 7 points.
West Hall is off until next Friday when it plays host to Gilmer (9-5, 2-2 Region 7-3A) in another huge Region 7-3A matchup.
