Girls basketball: Banks opens 8-2A with win; NHall, Chestatee take 8-4A wins; Branch routs Winder in 8-5A; Buford, LCA win

GAINESVILLE, Ga. — Chestatee remained unbeaten in Region 8-4A Subregion A with a tough 69-62 win over East Hall on Tuesday at the Cottrell Center.

The Lady War Eagles (11-4, 4-0 Region 8-4A) rallied from a slim halftime deficit behind Riley Black and Addison Boyd. Black and Boyd both finished with 22 points, with Black pouring in 14 in the fourth quarter as they held off the Lady Vikings (3-12, 0-4 Region 8-4A).

Chestatee led 19-16 after the first quarter but trailed 29-28 at the half after East Hall used a 13-9 run to take the lead. The second half was back-and-forth but Chestatee outscored the Lady Vikings 41-33 in the second half to slowly pull away for the win.

East Hall was led by Maleah Harrison with 22 points. Kaylana Curry added 13 points, Callie Dale had 12 points, and Haley Barton 10 for the Lady Vikings.

Caroline Bull had 12 points on four 3-pointers for Chestatee.


NORTH HALL 47,
CHEROKEE BLUFF 42

The Lady Trojans built a big first half lead and held off a furious second half rally to take a key Region 8-4A win on the road.

The win for North Hall (10-4, 3-1 Region 8-4A) moved them into a second place tie with the Lady Bears (10-4, 3-1 Region 8-4A) in subregion A play.

It was a close game early with North Hall leading 12-8 after the first quarter. But the Lady Trojans used a 20-13 second quarter to run out to a 32-21 halftime lead.

Bluff got back into the game with a 14-4 third quarter to pull within 36-35 heading into the fourth. But North hall was able to hold on down the stretch.

The North Hall defense held Bluff leading scorer Claire Carlson to just 7 points and no 3-pointers for the game. Mia Williams was held to just 4 points and no field goals. Ella Quirart paced the Lady Bears with 14 points, including four 3-pointers. Emma Reynolds had 8 points for Bluff.

Kristina Peach led North Hall with 18 points and Athena Vachtsevanos added 13 points, including four 3-pointers. Lexi Jarrard had 7 points and Genesis Satterfield 6 points for the Lady Trojans.


FLOWERY BRANCH 58,
WINDER-BARROW 31

The Lady Falcons moved into third place in Region 8-5A with a big region win at home. 

Branch (9-6, 2-1 Region 8-4A) jumped out to a 17-9 lead after the opening period and built a 31-15 halftime lead. The Lady Falcons extended their lead to 45-27 heading into the fourth quarter.

Amiya Scott led Flowery Branch with 18 points. Bella Brick added 15 for the Lady Falcons.


BANKS COUNTY 64,
EAST JACKSON 37

The Lady Leopards opened their Region 8-2A schedule with a dominating win at home on Tuesday.

Banks County (14-3, 1-0 Region 8-2A) opened the game with a 15-4 run behind 7 points from Addison Boyd. They pushed their lead to 29-16 by halftime as Boyd added another 6 points.

They blew the game open with a 21-point third as Kamryn Grier poured in 9 of her eventual 25 points in the quarter for a 50-23 lead.

Hoard finished with 19 points for Banks County.

Alana David paced East Jackson (7-10, 0-1 Region 8-2A) with 13 points. Antonia Pittman had 9 points for the Lady Eagles.


BUFORD 82,
CARVER-COLUMBUS 62 

Taylor Romano scored 30 points to lead the Lady Wolves past Carver-Columbus on Tuesday at the Buford Arena. 

Corin Killian added 14 points, and Betty Nguyen had 12. 

The Lady Wolves (11-0) will travel to Mountain View on Friday. Tip-off is 7:30 p.m.


LANIER CHRISTIAN 30,
PEACHTREE ACADEMY 28

The Lady Lightning got a thrilling win in their first game back after the Christmas break.

Ellie Roberts recorded a double-double scoring 10 points and pulling down 10 rebounds to lead LCA (8-5, 1-0 in GAPPS). Camille Hoffmann had 8 points and 9 rebounds and Adelyn Gough added 8 points and 7 rebounds for the Lady Lightning.

LCA next will play Young Americans Christian School on Thursday in a region game at home.
