JEFFERSON, Ga. — Flowery Branch moved into second place in Region 8-5A with a solid 5-0 win over Jefferson on the road on Thursday.
It was the third straight region win and fourth straight win overall for the Lady Falcons (15-9, 9-4 Region 8-5A). The loss dropped Jefferson (14-10, 6-7 Region 8-5A) two games back of fourth place with five region games left in the season.
Branch broke open a scoreless game with four runs in the third, highlighted by a two-run double from Alyssa Wagner. Wagner also drove in a run in the sixth with another double.
That was more than enough fro Nikki Harris, who got the win in the circle scattering four hits and striking out 11 in a complete-game effort.
Addison Self took the loss for Jefferson giving up four runs on three hits in 2 2/3 innings. But all five Flowery Branch runs were unearned as the Lady Dragons committed six errors on the day.
Casey Beaver went 3-for-4 with 2 runs scored for Flowery Branch. Alyssa Herringshaw had two hits and drove in two runs and Laney Price and Blakely Martin also had one hit for the Lady falcons.
Flowery Branch will be back in action on Monday at home against Heritage-Conyers in another key region matchup. Jefferson will hit the road Monday against Eastside, one of two teams tied for fourth just two games ahead of the Lady Dragons.
