Softball: Bluff, Branch, Jefferson, Buford all take region wins

FLOWERY BRANCH — Cherokee Bluff moved into fourth place in Region 8-4A with a 6-3 win over Seckinger on Tuesday at home.

The Lady Bears (7-7, 5-5 Region 8-4A) broke a 3-3 tie scoring three runs in the bottom of the fifth, with Audrey Graham executing a squeeze bunt to drive in a run.

Catalina Baronci got the win for Cherokee Bluff, surrendering three runs on nine hits and striking out one in a complete-game effort.

Addison Watson took the loss for Seckinger. Watson lasted six innings, allowing six runs on 11 hits while striking out two

Clarissa McDaniel hit a home run for Cherokee Bluff, who pounded out 11 hits on the day. Emma Sundermeyer had three hits while Lauren Rule and Mackinley Warren each had two hits for the Lady Bears.

EASTSIDE 0

Blakely Martin doubled in Alyssa Wagner with one out in the bottom of the seventh to give the Lady Falcons a thrilling, and crucial, win on Tuesday in Region 8-5A action.

The victory kept Flowery Branch (11-6, 7-2 Region 8-4A) in second place in the region standings, just one-half game behind first place Loganville (12-3, 7-1 Region 8-4A).

Nikki Harris once again was dominating in the circle scattering just two hits and fanning 14 in a complete-game.

Martin, Wagner, Laney Price, and Maddie Tims had the four Flowery Branch hits on the day.


JEFFERSON 12,
CLARKE CENTRAL 3 (5 inn)

Taylor Spivey broke a scoreless tie in the third with a two-run double and Avery Hays followed two batters later with a two-run home run to kickstart a big Region 8-5A win in five innings for the Lady Dragons on the road Tuesday.

Jefferson (10-6, 4-4 Region 8-5A) followed with a five-run fourth and a three-run fifth before the Lady Gladiators scored three in the fifth but it wasn’t enough to stop the mercy rule.

Addison Self got the win striking five of the six batters she faced in two innings. Alivia Gober got the save pitching the final three allowing three runs on three hits and also fanning six.
 
Audrey Burton had three hits and two RBI for Jefferson at the plate. Maleia Truelove had two hits and two RBI and Skylar Brady also had two hits for the Lady Dragons.

The Lady Dragons, who are tied for fourth place in the region, have a huge game on Thursday playing host to first-place Loganville.


BUFORD  12,
MOUNTAIN VIEW  2 (5 inn)

The Lady Wolves hit three home runs, which accounted for seven runs, in taking a big Region 8-7A win in five innings on the road on Tuesday.

However, Buford (14-0, 6-0 Region 8-7A) trailed 1-0 after the first inning. The offense exploded from there.

Buford scored three in the second, two in the third, three in the fourth, and four in the fifth.

Freshman Caroline Stanton continued her rampage at the plate. She went 3-for-3 with a two-run home run (her 6th of the season) with three RBI and she scored twice.

Senior Olivia Duncan also was 3 for 3 with a two-run home run (her 3rd of the season) with two RBI. Sophomore Abby McKinnis hit a pinch-hit, three-run home run, the first of her varsity career and junior Madison Pickens went 3-for-4, with a double, two RBI, and scored three runs. Junior Adriana Martinez also drove in two runs on two hits for Buford.

Junior Emma Grace Williams (4-0) went the distance scattering five hits and striking out five.
