FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. — Flowery Branch moved into a tie for first place in Region 8-5A with a thrilling 2-1 win over Loganville on Wednesday at the Hog Mountain Sports Complex.
The Lady Falcons (8-4, 4-1 Region 8-5A) came into the game trailing Loganville (7-3, 4-1 Region 8-5A) by just one game in the standings. Both teams now lead third place Winder-Barrow (7-2, 3-1 Region 8-5A) by just one-half game.
Flowery Branch took an early 1-0 lead in the second when Alyssa Wagner reached on a single, eventually moved to third third on an Alyssa Herringshaw sacrifice bunt, and then scored on a passed ball.
It stayed that way until Loganville tied the game in the sixth. The Lady Falcons got the game-winner in the bottom of the sixth when Laney Price singled to drive in Mia Davis.
Nikki Harris then closed out the game in the seventh for the win. Harris went the distance allowing just one run on three hits and striking out 13.
Flowery Branch travels to Clarke Central on Thursday in another Region 8-5A contest with a chance to grab sole possession of first place.

MILL CREEK 6
Buford rallied from four runs down to stay unbeaten in Region 8-7A play on Wednesday at the Buford Softball Complex.
The Lady Hawks (8-4, 1-1 Region 8-7A) did not make it easy jumping on Buford starter Olivia Duncan in the opening frame with four hits, a walk, and a hit batter to take a 4-0 lead. But Buford got its offense going from there.
But the Lady Wolves (9-0, 2-0 Region 8-7A) quickly chipped away. Buford scored three in the second and three more in the third to take a 6-4 lead. Mill Creek answered with a run in the fourth to cut the lead to6-5 but Buford answered with two runs in the bottom of the fourth, a run in the fifth, and two more in the sixth to explode for an 11-5 lead.
Buford pounded out 13 hits as junior Tavye Borders had three hits, two RBI, and scored twice to pace the offense. Sophomore Isabel Rettiger also had three hits and an RBI while junior Mackenzie Pickens had two hits and three RBI and freshman Caroline Stanton had two hits and scored three runs for the Lady Wolves.
Duncan improved to 5-0 on the season getting the complete-game win. The senior surrendered 11 hits but walked only one and fanned eight.
