Citizens review team set to see Gwinnett business plans

By Caleb Hutchins Assistant News Director

Beginning Monday, a citizens review team will have a chance to look at proposed Gwinnett County business plans ahead of the approval of next year's county budget.

The plans are being presented by county department leaders including the sheriff's office and the clerk of courts. Gwinnett County Board of Commissioners Chairwoman Nicole Hendrickson said the team will have a chance to review the needs of departments and agencies that provide services to county residents and businesses and make recommendations on funding from a resident's viewpoint.

"As our county grows, so do the service needs of our various stakeholders,” Hendrickson said in a release. “This budgeting process, which engages a diverse panel of residents, ensures greater transparency and accountability in setting our funding priorities to meet those growing needs."

The team consists of Hilda Abbott, Buzz Brockway, David Cuffie, Michelle Kang and Asif Jessani.

The business plans will be viewable on the county's government access channel while budget review meetings will be available on the county's website.

The first public hearing on the proposed 2023 budget will be in November. The budget will need to be adopted by January.
