Suwanee Arts Center prepares for Oct. fundraising benefit

The Suwanee Arts Center will hold a fundraising benefit, “The Dam Dinner,” on Oct. 14 to gather support for local artists and the Suwanee Arts Center.

The benefit’s tongue-in-cheek name refers to the fact that the event will be held at Sims Lake Park on 4600 Suwanee Dam Road. President of Suwanee Art Club’s Board of Directors Sheila Crumrine said the “Dam Dinner” name was initially a joke, but it stuck.

“At first the name Dam Dinner was a nickname we used to refer to the dinner on the dam at Sims Lake Park,” Crumrine said. “The board kicked around other names but eventually we realized that an event called the Dam Dinner would get people’s attention.”

Individual tickets cost $125 and include dinner and entertainment, while a table can be purchased for $1,000. A table includes six reserved seats, dinner and entertainment and a $250 sponsorship.

The meals will be a chef-curated experience.

Grammy Award-winning artist Carol Albert will provide entertainment, and Crumrine said the event will be similar to a Napa Harvest Dinner.

“The Dam Dinner will take place under the stars,” Crumrine said. “We have never had an event at Sims Lake Park. This will be an unforgettable evening that everyone will be talking about. It’s simply going to be fun and different.”

There will also be a blind date book and wine pull, in addition to a “blossoming surprise” at the end of the evening.

This benefit will set the tone for the kinds of artist events that Suwanee Art Center will be able to host.

“The Dam Dinner is our premier fundraising event,” Suwanee Arts Executive Director Bryan Galgano said. “It’s a time to celebrate the amazing work Suwanee Arts Center has done this year and look forward to the incredible work we will be doing together in the future. Donations to the Dam Dinner will help promote the appreciation of local art through exhibitions, festivals and arts education. Get your ticket online and join us for this uniquely Suwanee event!"
